Deb8it was an open community for online debate. Members posted a question, picked a side, and let the rest of the web argue underneath. Public profiles, threaded responses, email alerts when a thread saw new activity.
Pose a question, pick a stance, and let strangers civilly (or otherwise) join in. Members got a profile, a feed of the debates they'd joined, and notifications when their threads picked up traction.
A custom Yii + MySQL stack with a full back-office for moderation, content categories and member management. Hand-rolled — no off-the-shelf forum software — so the UX matched the format rather than the other way round.
